A Prayer for Animals

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals,

Especially for animals who are suffering;

For any that are hunted or lost;

Destroyed or frightened or hungry;

For all that must be put to death.
We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity
And for those who deal with them we ask
A heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words.

Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals

And so to share the blessings of the merciful.

-Albert Schweitzer

2nd Chance Pets

IF YOU FIND IT HARD TO THINK ABOUT LIFE WITHOUT YOUR PET, IMAGINE YOUR PET'S LIFE WITHOUT YOU.

Thousands of animals are euthanized in U.S. animal shelters each year simply because their human caregivers passed away and had made no arrangements for the continuous care of their beloved pets. What will happen to your pets if they outlive you?

Our organization works to reduce the number of pets euthanized throughout the US due to the death or disability of their human companions. According to the ASPCA, 2 - 3% of all pets entering shelters are surrendered due to the death or disability of the pet owner. 2nd Chance 4 Pets is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization. Our volunteers work nationwide to provide pet owners, veterinarians, and members of animal care organizations with comprehensive information and lifetime care solutions to ensure care for our companion animals. Based on the response we have received, we are convinced the our programs have a significant impact on preventing pets from being euthanized unnecessarily, providing owners with piece of mind, and reducing the financial and manpower strain on already overburdened animal shelters and rescue organizations.

Please let us assist you in making arrangements for your pets in the case of your death. You owe it to the furry four-legged friends who have provided you unconditional love throughout your lifetime.

Sara's Sanctuary advocates for the safety, well-being, and quality of life for all animals. We provide a safe and secure lifetime haven for animals in need of special care, for the disabled and abused exotic wildlife. They are given an abundance of love, which they so deserve, where they can live out the rest of their lives in security and dignity in their forever home.

At Sara's Sanctuary it is our primary goal is to provide a safe haven to any animal, bird, reptile or any other creature that is in immediate need of shelter, care and medical help because of abuse or abandonment. That belief does not change because of what species it happens to be. Any animal that needs immediate care, and has found its way to our door will not be turned away. They may only need our help for a short period of time to get them comforted, nourished and given a warm bed. If they need to be transitioned to another facility with the appropriate professionals, we establish where the best place is for the next step in their lives. Since we began in 1998, we have served as a place of transition for well over 1000 animals, many whom have come from sad and desperate situations.

Obviously, being free for any animal is the best option, if only for all exotics and wildlife, but usually, because of human involvement, that option is impossible for too many. Most people don't know that many of the species of creatures we have cared for here at the Sanctuary these past 14 years are illegal to own in the state of Washington. They are bred and sold every day into private ownership - from servals to bears, primates to foxes, deer, raccoons, squirrels, skunks and even the often misunderstood little opossum - basically any animal, bird or reptile you can think of. It is very disheartening to see the sad and filthy situations many of these animals are left in after being forced into human hands, totally dependent for even something as basic as clean water. Trade in birds, of all types, is the most prolific. The main need a bird has, is to fly and be free, and yet so many of them will ultimately end up sitting in a small cramped cage in someone's home or garage with no attention or care.

We believe all creatures deserve the same care and quality of life, no matter what size or shape it is. Providing that has always been our first priority.

Can you help?

Sara's Sanctuary operates 100% with an all-volunteer staff and NO administrative salaries or paid directors. When you donate, you can be sure that 100% of the money you give will go directly towards one of the following:

  • Veterinary expenses, medical care, health maintenance;
  • Food - e.g. fresh food, meat for the carnivores, exotic bird seed and pellets, farm feed;
  • Animal enclosures - maintenance & repairs;
  • Utility costs, etc.

Maddie's Fund, the Pet Rescue Foundation, is a family foundation established in 1999 to help fund the creation of a no-kill nation. Since its inception, Maddie's Fund has awarded animal welfare organizations and universities $71.6 million to save dog and cat lives.

PeopleSoft and Workday Founder, Dave Duffield, and his wife, Cheryl, created Maddie's Fund in 1999. The foundation makes good on a promise the Duffields made to their beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Maddie, to give back in dollars that which Maddie gave to them in companionship and love. Maddie passed away in 1997, but thanks to this one little dog, abandoned shelter animals have new opportunities to find loving homes in which they, too, may share in the joy and love that Dave and Cheryl enjoyed with Maddie.

Maddie's Fund aims to create a no-kill nation where all healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats are guaranteed a loving home. To achieve this goal, Maddie's Fund is investing its resources in:

  • Community collaborations where animal welfare organizations come together to develop successful models of lifesaving
  • Veterinary colleges to help shelter medicine become part of the veterinary curriculum
  • Private practice veterinarians to encourage greater participation in the animal welfare cause
  • The implementation of national strategies to collect and report shelter statistics

In Fiscal Year 2007-08, Maddie's Fund awarded $14.5 million through 298 grants in 41 states and the District of Columbia.

The Maddie's Fund mission is to revolutionize the status and well-being of companion animals.

Kelly's Mission

My goal is to advise you of your Guides, Angels and loved ones messages to you in a loving manner with integrity. You will learn the tools needed to deal with life in a loving and productive matter, enhance self esteem and understand God's loving and nonjudgmental ways.

Communicating with animals is one of my biggest blessings of my life. They are at times very profound and funny. Yet other times just wish to let you know they want a special treat. I feel honored to work with them as they work to teach us unconditional love and to see that different does not mean "less then". My mission is to narrow the lack of understanding between the species so that we all live as the happy and productive beings we were meant to be.

Healing is an important aspect of my work and I want to enhance people and animals lives by offering healing Reiki energy to you and all your family members, including the loving animals in your life. Training other humans to help heal using Reiki is an important aspect of my work. The more Healers there are in this world, the better for everyone.

My love and blessings to you as you walk the many roads in this life. Please remember to choose love on your journey, especially for yourself.

Love and light,

Kelly Schneid

MEOW's goal is to help create a "no-kill nation," where people are responsible for their pets, where there are no helpless creatures abandoned in boxes or left to fend for themselves in parking lots, where there is no longer a need for any healthy companion animal to be euthanized. There are many worthy organizations and individuals working toward this end. The rescue network is communicative and non-competitive. Certainly, progress is being made. But there is so very far to go.

MEOW, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit since 1997, places approximately 1,500 animals into permanent homes each year. Adoption fees from $65 to $95 help defray the cost of care for the animals. Donations from interested individuals, organizations and business provide additional financial support. Our application process ensures that every adopted animal is placed in an environment where there is appropriate space, human contact, and a commitment to safeguard and care for the animal for its entire lifetime. Our standards are high. The welfare of the animals is paramount in the placement process.

Each year MEOW is faced with the impossible and each and every day we recommit ourselves to something we truly believe in, the motto we adopted at our inception, "all nine lives are precious."
